Obituary of Elizabeth Sarah Pumputis (nee Gilchrist)

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep love and sadness that we share the passing of Elizabeth Sarah Pumputis (née Gilchrist), aged 82, a beloved resident of Waubaushene, Ontario. After a courageous battle with cancer, Elizabeth passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Born and raised on the family farm in Dutton, Ontario, Elizabeth was the cherished daughter of Jack and Annie Gilchrist (both predeceased), and loving sister to Anna Mae (Bill) Szabo and twin sister, Mary (Marv) Nethercott.

Elizabeth was the loving wife of William Pumputis for 64 wonderful years. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and warmth. She was a proud and loving mother to Mark (Carole), Allen (Patti), and Angie (Sue), and an adoring grandmother to Steven, Patrick (Sarah), Allison (Matt), Matthew (Greg), Philip, and Reid.

A longtime member of St. John’s Parish and the Royal Canadian Legion in Waubaushene, Elizabeth lived her life with purpose and heart. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures — cooking for her family, playing cards, working on puzzles, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness.

Elizabeth will be remembered as a positive ray of sunshine — always welcoming, genuinely interested in everyone’s news, and accepting of all.

“Live, Love, Laugh,” are more than words — it was how she lived every day.

The family will honour her life with a visitation at the Coldwater Funeral Home, Coldwater on Sunday October 19th from 2-4 & 6-8pm.  Parish prayers will be held at 3:45pm and the R.C.L. Beaverbrook Branch #316, Ladies Auxiliary, Waubaushene will honour Elizabeth with a tribute at 6pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Waubaushene on Monday October 20th at 11am.  Following the mass, family and friends are invited to the Waubaushene Legion for the reception and a time of sharing memories by the family.

As an expression of sympathy please consider donations in Elizabeth’s memory to Hospice Huronia - Tomkins House, Penetanguishene and/or donating blood to Canadian Blood Services.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at RVH’s Hudson Cancer Centre and to the compassionate staff at Hospice Huronia - Tomkins House for their care and kindness.

Elizabeth’s warmth, love, and laughter will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
