Obituary of Janet Lynn Coombs

Passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Mariposa House Hospice, Severn at the age of 64 on Friday April 17, 2026.  Predeceased by her husband Jim Coombs (January 2024).   Loved mother of Michelle Surgenor (Kevin), Nicole Colp (Dave), Jamie Coombs (Kaitlin), and Scott Coombs (Emily).  Loving nanny of Kyle, Ryan, Isabella, Matteo, Makayla, Everett, Evelyn, Ruby, and Knox.  Special friend of John Hipwell. Dear sister of Curt Ellis, Rick Ellis, Rachel Knox, and Cathy Knox.  Predeceased by her parents Ron Ellis and Celina Ellis. 

 

Janet was a longtime member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Matchedash serving as a Church Warden, Sunday School Teacher, member of the board of St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, and actively involved with St. John’s Willing Workers. When the church closed she became a member of St. George’s Anglican Church, Fairvalley.  Janet was also a member of the North River Women’s Institute, involved with the Matchedash Community Heritage Centre, and actively supported the Terry Fox Run. 

 

The family wish to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Howard and the staff of Mariposa House Hospice for their care and compassion shown to Janet. 

 

The family will honour Janet with a visitation at the Coldwater Funeral Home, Coldwater on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. The funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, Fairvalley on Saturday April 25th at 11am.  Following the service family and friends are invited to the  Coldwater Legion for the Reception / Celebration of Life from 12:30-3pm.

 

Janet will be buried alongside her husband Jim at St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, Matchedash at a later date.

 

As an expression of sympathy donations in memory of Janet may be made to the Terry Fox Run, St. George’s Anglican Church, Fairvalley or to the Mariposa House Hospice, Severn and may be made through the Funeral Home
