I just learned of your Mother's death, Betsy and family. She was always so pleasant to chat with when she came to the library. I know you will miss her terribly.

… earned her RN at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.
…practiced a nurse's care and compassion ever after for people and animals.
…liked to be near the water, starting with Saskatchewan's Lac Peletier, then
Dunnville and Buffalo's Lake Erie.
In 1942 Joan was maid of Honor at my marriage to Ray Kuehn. By 1948 Joan was a
loving Aunt to Pat, Sara, and Christine. There were many opportunities to have family
fun at 70 Keller Ave in Kenmore.
Good times on the water next was Gloucester Pool's Oromocto and Leekings cottage.
These holidays led to the building of Joan's Little Rock and my Echo Rock, both on
Little Lake -on-the-Severn.
My girls grew up- summer time swimming, boating, with Aunt Joan . Gram and
Grampa Millard had Big Rock cottage nearby,
Years pass without us being aware of changes. Then in 1960 . at our traditional
New Year's Dinner in Dunnville, Joan and Roger were proud to introduce their
daughter Betsy, born November 5, 1959.

Aunt Joan was my mom's sister. When we were little, Aunt Joan used to work the second shift as a nurse at a hospital near our house. She would always stop at our house for a visit before she went to work. In the summer we would sit on the lawn and watch for her. In the winter we would sit at the front window. She was our second mother - no Betsy then. She would stay with us on the rare occasions when mom and dad would go away for a day or two. Anyway, we loved to see Aunt Joan arrive in her starched white nurse's uniform and hat and gorgeous blue cape. We would jump up and down and race to get the first hug. This is my earliest and probably the fondest and most lasting memory of Aunt Joan.

I thought this was the perfect picture of mother for this memorial page. It was one that she herself must have liked because it was taped to the mirror in her bedroom at the cottage.
