Obituary of Elmer Strongitharm

Passed away after a courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie on Saturday February 19th, 2011, at the age of 83, of Coldwater. Beloved husband of Margot. Loving father of Wendy Fagan (Dennis) of Mississauga, Mark Strongitharm (Bev) of Brampton, Don Strongitharm (Theresa Heal) of Brampton, Barbara Debassige of Orillia, and Douglas Finan (Terri) of Hillsdale. Loved grandfather of Grant, Laura, Autumn, Marley, Bethany, Macey, Stephanie (Marc), and Matthew (Kim). Dear great-grandfather of Jackson and Samantha. Special friend of Chris Debassige. Predeceased by his brother George. Elmer was a past president and active member of the Coldwater Lions Club, a recipient of the Melvin Jones award, was Santa Claus for the Coldwater Santa Claus parade for approximately 20 years, past president of the Coldwater Canadiana Museum, past member of the Champlain Golden K Club, Orillia, member of the Orillia Probus Club, past president of the Toronto Sheet Metal Association. The family honoured Elmer's life with a visitation at the Coldwater Funeral Home, Coldwater on Thursday February 24th from 7-9pm. A celebration of Elmer's life was held at the Coldwater United Church, Coldwater on Friday February 25th at 1pm. The Coldwater Lions Club gathered at the funeral home to honour Elmer on Thursday evening at 6:30pm. A celebration of Elmer's life will be held at Severn Falls Chapel, Severn Falls on Saturday June 4th at 2pm. As an expression of sympathy, donations in memory of Elmer may be made to the Severn Falls Chapel.
