My dad, was many things to many people. A loving husband, a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, a helpful neighbour, and a proud grandfather. But to me, he was more, much more, he was my superman, my superdad! It’s comforting to know that when someone you love dearly becomes a memory, that memory in turn becomes a treasure. And I certainly will treasure and cherish fondly, all of the memories I made and had with my father, as I’m sure all of you will as well. My father was, and will alway be remembered for what an AMAZING man he truly was.
My dad faced his cancer, the same way he lived his life, with a tenacious work ethic, a positive attitude and a persistent sense of optimism. He never complained or asked why me. He was stoically brave as he courageously battled through this devastating hardship, all well handling it with dignity, courage, and of course his sense of humour.
They say a true measure of a man is how well he treats others he encounters in life. And I have never met someone more selfless then My Dad. So hospitable and generous. If you needed him, he was there! He always put others first. It’s safe to say he touched all our hearts and our lives for the better. There will never be another Johnny Mac!
My father gave me so many great things in life. I’m Soooooooo proud to have had such a strong and courageous Dad! He is my Superman! I will miss and love him forever and ever!! I looked up to, and admire him a great deal. He taught me so much about life that I will carry with me and continue to teach my new little ones, Danika and Jordan.
One of the great blessing my dad had in his life, was his wife Helga. She was the best thing to happen to him. She was his rock and did Soooooo much for him. They say that behind every great man, stands an even greater women. And thats Helga. Johnny was her life. My Dad was her life. And her his. She loved my Dad with her whole heart, and he loved her ten fold!
In closing, and worth sharing is, one of the greatest gifts my father gave me over the last few months- unintentionally - was witnessing the courage with which he bore adversity. He was always unshaken, completely tranquil, the same ebullient, laughing, jovial man. He was steadfastly brave and courageous, and I will always be so proud of how hard he fought right till the end. He is, and was, my hero!
Love forever and always, your son
-Michael

Lenore and I were very sorry to hear that John had lost his battle.
Although we have been out of touch for many years, we had the opportunity to meet both John and Helga while on holiday with Don a few years ago.
His affable manner and good nature brought back many good memories of our childhood with Uncle Gord, Aunt Rita, and the entire family.
We certainly agree with Michael that meeting Helga was a great positive in John's life, after having spent some time with her as well during that holiday.
May John now rest in peace.

I am saddened to learn of John's passing. I will always remember the many fun times spent at John and Helga's and at the NASCAR races in Michigan. John was always hospitable and treated me like family. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Helga and his family.

You took life as it came, John. You did not suffer fools gladly, but you accepted the foolishness of circumstances maturely, with understanding and tolerance. Cheerful to the end, wise, thoughtful, helpful, and forgiving. I am deeply humbled to have had the chance to share part of your life.

As the Mackan family chain grows shorter here on earth, it increases with each link we add in heaven. John, you are the second of our generation to leave us behind. More will follow, for sure. See you then, my dear Johnny Mac! Cousin Maggie
