I have so many memories of Mumu that I really can't share just one.
My favorite moments that make me smile...
Her dancing in the cottage kitchen while cooking for us kids (the thin pancake like Finnish dish that I could never pronounce and she would laugh when I tried). She always made sure to have leftovers for the family of raccoons that came each night to her door.
Mumu for me, reminds me of flowers and plants. I loved her love for giving me that same passion and through her, I have gained the same love and appreciation of all things plants and flowers. We spoke together about them all the time. Like anything else she devoted herself too, she took care of flowers and plants amazingly. She could bring a seed to life or an almost dead plant to fruition and back to it's beauty. I strive to do the same because of the love that she instilled in me for them.
I also smile when I see her giggle while taking a little sip from her rum and coke while cooking thanksgiving dinner in her kitchen, as though having that sip was sinnful. I saw it as innocence and well deserved for all of her hard work. She was a very hard worker. Inside the home and outside the home. All of which she took pride in.
Or when she taught me how to make boula and I broke her rolling pin. She was always kind to me. She giggled then too although I had a feeling she wasn't very happy about it - the job wasn't done and we had to use our hands after that.
She always smelled amazing and took very good care of herself. I always told her how beautiful she was when she bashinly said her hair wasn't done when I popped in without notice. She always looked like a movie star in my eyes!
During every visit we always looked at her rings and I asked her to tell me the story behind each one of them. I wanted to know everything about her and her life! She always gave me a hard time for not wearing enough jewelry. She loved jewelry!! She would come in to my work for a visit and tell me that a beautiful professional such as myself should have on a necklace and earrings and rings and bracelets. We didn't agree on that as jewelry felt odd to me. She knew that. She was very happy when I got engaged and married and loved to look at my ring each time we met, as it was the only piece I ever wore.
She was a beautiful, charismatic, strong, stubborn, loving and compassionate woman who I looked up too. Thank you Mumu for your insights and for our conversations about life and relationships. Marriage as well! Big tough topics to little miscellaneous topics. There is still so much I didn't get to hear from you but I suppose I will wait until you meet me at the pearly white gates of heaven. Rest in peace and until I see you again, I hope you know the amount of love and admiration I carried in my heart for you. I love you forever and always.
Your Grandaugther,
Stephanie
