Queen's University Medicine Class of 1985 posted a condolence
Monday, September 14, 2020
We fondly remember Mike Ives during medical school as someone who stood out as incredibly kind and enthusiastic, and who always greeted us with his impish smile. He seemed quiet and shy but was ever ready to participate in anything fun. He didn't seem to change over the 35 years since graduation: those who spoke with him felt his genuine joy. It was obvious that he had remained fit and active, since several of us had chance meetings with him at the annual Docs on Ice hockey tournament where he played for the Orillia team. During the 2018 Docs on Ice in Toronto, he expressed his excitement about attending our 35th Meds '85 class reunion since he had missed the last one. Spending those 4 years together in medicine has created a lasting bond for most of us, and we acutely feel the loss of our classmate.

I am incredibly sorry for the loss of Mike. Not only was he a community pillar, he was a loyal friend. He supported my entire family during a very hard time a few years ago. Not as our physician, but as our friend, as a member of the family. You could rely on Mike for just about anything. I am grateful for the time he spent with my loved ones. Whether it was a morning coffee, an afternoon on the veranda, or an evening hockey game.
You will be greatly missed by all Mike.
My sincerest condolences to Mikes family.

This lovely picture of Michael was taken at my daughter and Mikes stepdaughters wedding May 22/2015 at our home on Reeves Road! We boated, tubed, I slept on the floor with 11 dogs/pups within first three months of moving into our new home July 2006. We motorbikes together, skied, flew, walked, planted gardens...I’m still an avid gardening...I walked 5-7 miles a day through our trails...when Mike was Home would join me! We lived through heartbreak, love and laughter. Michel as I often joked with him...you are too vibrant to go this route and we are heartbroken and lost by your absence ! Kelsey, Mikey and I...especially myself, will never forget the good times in our 20 years together! Happy I picked out that suit to match my dress on Kelsey’s wedding day. Xo

It is with deep sadness that I post this message to Dr. Ives' family. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Ives for the past 20 years. He was always so easy going and had a great sense of humour.. His patients respected him and laughed with him. It is a great loss to his family, friends, colleagues, patients and the community of Coldwater. Rest in peace Dr. Ives.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden tragic passing of Michael. My heartfelt condolences go to the Ives family at this difficult time. Mike and I were close friends from childhood and roomed together for our first three years of university. I always appreciated Mike’s sense of humor and was fortunate enough to see the kind and sensitive person beneath the comedy. Because of distance and work, we were only able to visit a few times since university, but on each occasion our bond of friendship continued as if no time had passed. He will be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
With deepest sympathy as you remember Michael,
Paul Hanna

I wish to extend my heartfelt sympathy. I have known the Ives family for many years and have fond memories of attending public school, high school and university with Mike. During those years, we shared quite a few laughs. Mike could also be serious and was always willing to assist a classmate whenever they needed extra help with school work. One of my favourite memories is our High School Graduation. Who can forget Mike standing on his head, wearing bright red socks, giving the valedictorian speech. It is not surprising that Mike continued to share his sense of humour and compassion with everyone he met. It was a privilege to have known Mike. My prayers are with his children, Dr. Bill, his extended family and colleagues as they mourn Mike's loss.
Sincerely,
Denise Wood

To Mike's Family
You have our deepest sympathy. The tribute you have written is right on the money. He made every minute he lived count for something, from stitching his own hockey injuries to helping his patients
. He was honest with the members of my family when illness occurred. My mentally disabled sister was passing away and she knew Mike was on holidays but was sure he would come to see her. He did. He gave her the best gift a person can. He gave part of himself. She passed on telling everyone Dr.Ives came to see her, she knew her hero would come.
He was "crazy" in a good way and won't be easy to forget. You girls were always in his thoughts.
You have a strong family. Lean on each other when needed. His memories will guide you.

Mike Ives was one of my first friends after moving to Stayner in 1967. We were friends throughout our public and high school years and played together on every school team imaginable including football, basketball, volleyball and track. Mike was always joking, laughing and made our school lives so much fun. Even the teachers found Mike funny despite the frequent class disruptions.
Despite not seeing Mike for over 40 years I fondly remember those happy times like they were yesterday!
My heart goes out to Mike’s family, friends and colleagues knowing that this lovely man will be always be remembered for the funny, witty way in which he lived his life!
With love and best wishes,
Mike Prosser
