She was my mother-in-law, my confidant, my best friend, my hockey partner: one of the only CORHL Coldwater Oldtimers Recreational Hockey League fans! She was the best hockey mom / Oma.
She was a one of a kind, smart, witty, strong, loving great lady with a great sense of humour.
She had the greatest stories! She could talk about anything, anytime! She would always find a topic. We were never bored in her company. She had a gift to entertain!
She had survived World War II and its difficult times being away from home at a young age in foster care, jumping off the Red Cross Train in search for food after being bombed and having witnessed school friends being shot. She was also a survivor of polio, diphtheria, heart condition (stent), gall bladder surgery (misdiagnosis prior to her Leukemia), several falls and broken bones. She was diagnosed with cancer (Leukemia) more than 8 years ago. She managed to be in remission but chose to continue her self-injected homebased chemotherapy. One tuff woman.
She loved her family and friends, animals, sports, nature, the outdoors, brandy, music, playing harmonica, singing, her German Club, doing crossword puzzles, her island, gardening, being active, going to the casino / shows. She loved life!
A former professional gymnast, she was still flexible! She could bring up her legs behind her ears - especially when the Leafs would score!
Tall German Woman, she was one of the first women in Canada to ever wear a bikini!
Without hardly any wrinkles, even on her death bed, she looked and acted nothing but young.
This past September 28, she would have been 88 years old.
She did not die of COVID, or cancer or of a heart attack. She passed away from a truly hard to explain complication of a fall.
Here’s her picture only two weeks prior she passed…
I miss her now and will always miss her…

Dear Carsten, Brian and family,
We would like to express our sincere condolences to you all at this sorrowful time. Your mom, grandmother, great grandmother was such a beautiful person. She was a life long friend, mentor and role model. There was nothing she couldn't do. Hilde was thoughtful, kind and always made anyone who came to visit welcome. It is so hard to believe we will not hear her voice and share in her laughter. We will treasure the many wonderful memories we shared with Hilde and Wilfried.
We share in your sorrow in love and friendship. Hilde will be deeply missed.
