There is an unfortunate hurdle that is present when people's lives take them far distances away from each other. One thing is certain, my grandmother never forgot about me and I never forgot about her. Many of my grandparents passed while I was younger, and when I was physically able I did my best to spend time with "Grandma Pat".
I will always remember her as a tough, steady, and a respected presence when we would visit the legion. It was important for a young boy to see that from not only his elder but a strong woman.
She was also warm and interested in what was going on with our lives and encouraged me during our discussions. We shared phone calls in her later years probably not as often as we should have, however I would often hear through others near to her that she would happily mention that I did call even if it was simply 15 minutes.
I am thankful I got have a relationship with her, and she will be missed greatly by all those who knew her.
