Donald Gorse

Obituary of Donald Edward Gorse

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Don was born in Birmingham, England and met the love of his life, Joan at the Binley Army Dances and were married shortly after.  They made the brave venture to Canada, first living in Orillia, then Shawville, Quebec, then Midland and finally in his retirement, settling in Victoria Harbour.

Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He and Joan enjoyed the simple pleasures of life enjoying picnics and long walks, or you might have passed him riding his bike down the TayTrail.  Don always greeted you with a smile and had a great sense of humour.  Don loved to dance, cook, and was a great woodworker.

He was a man of many skills, working as a tradesperson, was a fireman, worked in the mining industry as Safety Supervisor and finally retiring from Indusmin as Safety Director.  He was also a volunteer at St. John’s Ambulance.

Don was the beloved father of Betty Dunlop (late Terry), Carol Graham (Jeff), Grampa to Chantelle, Shawn, Magda, Eirik, Kyle, Brandon, and Jenna, as well as Great Grampa to 12.  He is fondly remembered by brother David in England and many nieces and nephews in England and beyond.  Don was predeceased by brother Fred and sister Elsie.

Many thanks go out to the loving and kind care that Don has received from the staff at Hillcrest Village Care Centre, Midland.  Don passed away peacefully in his 97th year.  The family will be honouring Don with a private celebration of life.

If you wish, as an expression of sympathy donations in memory of Don may be made to Community Reach, Midland, https://communityreach.ca/ or through the Funeral Home.
