I meant Bob when the family moved to Port Severn and I was in grade 6 with Teresa. In grade 8, Kathy and Bob hosted a fun grad day at their waterfront property in Port Severn. We had so much fun tossing a watermelon in the lake and Bob smoked a cat fish on the fire. Such great memories. Of course Pepi spend many days with his truck on Dad’s barge. He had the gift of the gab and a great laugh! He will be missed.

Sorry to hear about my friend Bob. After I retired from the MOE, we lost touch but before that I inspected a lot of his work and we became good friend. Always a gentleman and always did the right thing.
Loved seeing that Pepi truck all over Muskoka

Pepi and I first met 'way back in 1973.....He was new to the septic pumping business and I bought Blue Water Resort in Dec 1972, not knowing anything about running a cottage resort & campground, I needed his services in the summer of 1973. He pumped my septic tank which fixed the problem and we became fast friends forever. We played golf together in our free time (which there wasn't much of) and then in a Men's League at Bonaire Golf Course in Coldwater (he pumped their tanks as well) He bought 10 acres at the corner of Honey Harbour Road and South Bay Rd and built a repair shop for his trucks. It just happened to be right on my way (or in my way) to my summer home / cottage in South Bay so I got in the habit of stopping in for a cold one on my way to "the cottage"
I will miss Pepi a lot for many years to come.....Bye Buddy

I was so sorry to hear that Uncle Bob was not doing very well and then he was in palliative care and later passed away. All my life he was the uncle who was fun, energetic and today I have so many great memories. I know that he is now with Aunt Cathy who he loved and adored.
Teresa please know that your parents adored you and your children and grandchildren. Treasure the memories and we will never forget him or your mom. Stay in touch. Deb

The Landry family have such wonderful memories of Bob. We have been on Six Mile Lake since 1976 and have known Bob since that time. Bob always loved to share a story or a joke. Just last year Bob let my grandchildren check out the truck, blow the horn and explained what he was doing. He also had some lunch with us and kept us laughing the whole time. Such a wonderful, kindhearted person that will be missed! Condolences to all of the family, sincerely Patricia Landry-Jones and family.

It is with sadness that I heard the news about Pepi's death.
We met Pepi back in 1970 when we built our cottage on Little Lake. In 2001 we turned our cottage into our home and Pepi of course serviced our septic system. He always told me I had the cleanest septic system in Georgian Bay Township.
We saw Pepi and Cathy socially and we all curled in Coldwater. I have such fond memories of both of them and I send my sincere condolences to the family, especially Teresa and Geoff who I knew the best. Pepi was such a character, always full of life and good vibes - he will be missed.

Many many years ago in New Orleans my very best late friend Bob Noble introduced me to Pepi, He was his normal bouncy self. He explained to me how he was going to organize the Septic Haulers of Ontario into an association. I was somewhat sceptical of his plan. My next meeting was in Honey Harbor with Pepi and septic haulers all over the Province of Ontario. He had an excellent plan to organize the septic haulers of Ontario thus the Ontario Sewage Haulers Association “Oasis” was inaugurated. Congratulations Pepi on a job well done. RSP . Pepi was one of the most welcoming people to my family when I worked at Honey Harbour Public School. The Honey Harbour folks are a tough nut to crack but Pepi definitely got me in the door, quite literally by inviting me to his place for food and some hockey. I am forever grateful for the impact he had on my family and send all my love to the family at this time.

There are people who come into your life that change its course forever.
Robert “Pepi” Murrell was that person for me.
Those who know the story, forgive me for repeating it.
It all started with a phone call - “Hi I’m Pepi”, are you a publicist? I’m taking 100 septic trucks to Queen’s Park and I need your help… and so began our 20 year friendship.
We did take 100 septic trucks to Queens Park lol and that was a career changing move! That and so many other adventures involving Pepi brightened my life.
There was always a story to be had if you were with Pepi.
Pepi as he is affectionately known was one in a million. He said if you didn’t meet 2 new friends everyday, you just weren’t living.
To know him was to love him… even if it didn’t start out that way. He was a force, sometimes a breeze but also a hurricane.
He spent 60 years in the Septic Hauling game and there was no one smarter. (Pepi’s Sewage Disposal now run by his incredible grandson Adam).
Family was everything to Pep. Those who were biological and those, like me, he adopted along the way.
His door was always open and there was always a cold beer or rye on hand. He had an unbelievable kind heart but did not suffer fools lightly.
A month ago after he got out of the hospital I went up to see him
at his beautiful home on Georgian Bay that he shared for years with his one true love Catherine/Cathy.
When I saw him,he was slower than his “100 miles an hour with his hair on fire” self. His fire was a little dimmer since the woman he spent 65 years with, passed last year. But in true Pepi fashion we shared a beer- each taking a half! Truth be told, it was three in total between the two of us.
We laughed, told stories and shared time with the people who came to call just to check in on him.
Last Monday, I got the call that said he was back in the hospital. I immediately went to see him.
Again, we laughed, told stories, true to form, he made the nurses blush.
I saw that spark that only Pep had. He had a way with people…
He begged me to break him out -as he put it “if anyone can, you can”.
I watched as his friends poured in to visit. Family, friends… everyone came (the photo below).
Pep was in his element, surrounded by friends and family.
I kissed him goodbye, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
On Saturday night at 10 pm, Catherine called for him, and he went to her as he had so many times before. He passed …
While I am heartbroken to lose my dear, dear friend, I know that he is with his one true love and at peace.
I will miss you, my friend…
Rest in peace, Pepi.
You will be missed.

Ahh, good ol' Pepi. Georgian Bay legend. Always looked after his customers. I always remember him putting his grandkids in the truck with him when he went to pump septic tanks. RIP and thank you for all the years of service in our community.
