Saddened to hear of Elfriede's passing. She was one of those people who transcend age. Hard to imagine a world without her. She will be missed. But still be felt in Coldwater and every time anyone skiis Mt. St. Louis-Moonstone. Hard to believe she was human after all. A leader in every sense of the word especially for women...what a legacy!!!!! Hopefully her full story will be written. I will leave you with a story...Any time an empty can of beer got thrown in the garbage...Colin Bidmead would say..."Elfriede Huter would take that back to the beer store". This was a lesson he learned from her at a young age working at the ski hill and seeing her about town. It stuck with him! Hard work pays off and don't waste money. Thank you Elfriede for your dedication to excellent snow quality. You leave big shoes to fill. With deepest sympathy to your family and may your grandchildren shine in your memory!

Dear Robert, Andrea and all of your families…it with with a heavy heart that I offer my deepest condolences. Working with your family at Mount St. Louis Moonstone afforded me the opportunity to work closely with your mother and what a strong, intelligent, kind and amazing woman she was. It was clear to all what a devoted and loving wife she was but also a formidable business woman who was forward thinking and hard working. She was one of the best bosses I ever had. She treated me with respect, generosity and kindness. I ran into her not very long ago and she remembered everything about my family, asked about my daughters. We had a lovely conversation and I’m so sad that it was our last. She was so proud of her family and brought you up well. You are all such good ambassadors of your parents. Your family has done so much for the ski industry. You must always carry that pride…the pride in the Huter name, the pride in having such incredible parents. God bless your mother and May she rest in peace with the Lord forever.

Your mother was one of the best bosses I’ve ever had. She was an incredible business woman and a kind and generous woman who looked after her employees well. She was a devoted mother who was obviously proud of her sons and their families. She was such a wonderful person to be around. Her energy was infectious, her intuition was amazing. She was smart, forward thinking, socially fun to be around and deeply kind. I’m fortunate to have known her and she will be deeply missed. My last conversation with her was so nice and it reminded me of why I loved her as a person. I’m deeply sorry for the pain of your loss. May your beautiful mother rest in eternal peace forever.

I remember meeting Elfriede for the first time when I went to pick up my Instructor jacket at the boutique. We had a little light conversation and she smiled when I asked her how was it going in German. "Wie Geht's". She was a kind, hardworking woman, and will be greatly missed. We're greatful to for Elfrieds's and Josl's legacy creating such a great skil hill for our winter playground. My deepest condolences to Robert, Andre and families.

As a Pine Ridge member, we had priviledge to ski at Mount St. Louis midweek. I fondly remember conversations I had with your Father/ Grandfather of how he encouraged school electives to be held at the resort. He felt that teaching a child how to ski would ensure they would return to the hill as adults to enjoy the sport.
One afternoon, I had the pleasure of skiing with your Mother/ Grandmother. What impressed me the most was her graceful European style of skiing....truly the lady of the hill!
May your special memories of both your parents/ grandparents remain with you always.

Upon meeting Elfriede at the Mount St. Louis Parish years ago, we became instant friends. She was such a caring & kind person that I soon felt like she was my second mom. I will miss you Elfriede, chatting on the phone to check in with her, going out for lunches with mutual friends, her sitting outside assisting me on what she would like in her garden and the list goes on. Thanks so for giving me so much of yourself, Elfriede…. God bless you❤️

I type this with a very sad heart. My wife, Deborah, and I had an extremely lovely coffee visit with Elfriede a week before Christmas.
When Elfriede and Josl first came to Canada they lived with my family, Robert (Bob) and Mary Newton. They and my parents became very good friends and Josl taught my dad how to yodel. I still have the old 8 mm films of them skiing at Limberlost Lodge. Although I only recently rekindled my relationship with Elfriede, I will miss her and the stories she had to tell of the time her and Josl spent with my parents and of the many hardships and good times building their amazing MSLM to what it is today. Elfriede's cheerful presence in the chalet and unswerving dedication to business will be missed by so many.
Our condolences go out to Andre, Robert and their family for the loss of such a warm-hearted and determined woman.
All our love always, Mark, Deborah, Curtis and Kyle Newton

I came to know Elfriede as a member of the St. Louis Church to which she belonged. Such a warm, welcoming and generous woman. She was so busy but always had a smile and time for me when I stopped by while skiing; and she was so hospitable to our parish group when we came to the resort for breakfast after Sunday mass. She was greatly valued by our church community and will be very much missed.

My deepest sympathies to the family. I have such great memories of Josl and Elfrieda. My husband George and I were immigrants from Scotland. He was a racing cyclist and decided to learn to ski to help with his fitness in the winter months. My two little girls were about 8 and 5 and we would all come up to Mt St Louis each weekend driving back and forth from Toronto. I could not ski and would sit in the lodge. George couldn’t learn enough. He was bitten by the bug and Josl encouraged it. He taught him personally and at the end of each year, he would direct him to Grey Rocks to get his levels. Josl was delighted and in no time, George was instructing at Mt. St Louis. I still had no desire to ski but loved to watch everyone. Elfrieda would come over and chat in between running all over the lodge and working. Many times, I would forget items for the girls, such as hats, mitts, ski pants, and she would go immediately and find clothing that belonged to the boys for us to borrow. They always made us feel like family.
This couple were an institution as far as skiing. Their love of sking, continued their whole lives. It was remarkable, how much they accomplished for the ski world and for the Barrie area. May they both rest in peace, and may their memory be a blessing to all.

I first met Josl when I was 6 at Limberlost lodge. He taught me how to ski. Later, through family friends we got together with both Josl and Elfriede for a trip to Aspen. Had a fabulous time and learned that Elfriede had the best personality… was full of fun and a little bit of mischief, in a good way. They were both pioneers of the ski industry and should be honoured for what they contributed.

Skiing for decades with my Dad at Mount St. Louis, seeing Elfriede and Josl in the chalet with their big smiles and wonderful greetings each time. I am deeply saddened for your loss. Sadly, my Dad, John Roskam, also passed away this year at age 93, Sept. 21, 2024 complications with a broken hip, then pneumonia. He was my skiing inspiration, my best ski buddy, teaching me and my daughter too. I will miss seeing this lovely lady and our chats, but know she and Josl are together again, skiing the slopes they loved so much.
