I had the privilege of working as a sub trade for Gerry since the 80's. His drive and push were helpful and instructive for me as a young self employed business owner. I always found him very personable. He encouraged me to work hard, be diligent, and do my best. I value the time we had, and will always think of him fondly.
My condolences to Greg, and the family.

When I was a little girl we lived next to Gerald's parents on Fowlie St. Over the years we have run into each other. Quite often with his buddy Garth Mayo. May the family be comforted by the memories of the past. Sincerely Ruth (Gilbert) Mackie

This is a man that I met back approximately in 1967/1968, Gerry had bought a neighboring farm. At that time he was laying bricks and blocks as well as running the farm. I was also running my farm and needed an extra job. Gerry I said, "Can you give me a labouring job" Well, what an education that was! He was only one man laying bricks and blocks, but you had to labor like three people to keep up with him. Mixing mortar, setting up scaffold, pointing & carrying bricks and blocks, with the the odd hauler, "Where is my mud".
I guess that's when I really learned how to work! One thing I do remember today, he said, "When you're putting somebody's driveway in, put it in properly. So when the concrete trucks come, they get in with their load without getting stuck. I have done that ever since on my jobs. I guess you could say I remember Gerry everyday. We were doing a subdivision in Coldwater, there was a couple little problems. We rounded the corner and there was about seven or eight people looking down the manhole. Gerry gets out & walks over to ask what the problem was? Everyone had an idea how to fix it, & Gerry just turns and says "Well I guess you don't need me to be here". You got it all figured out. Last year, the boys (Pat Lawlor, Paul Nosworthy) bought Gerry up to Huntsville. We went for a tour as Gerry always wanted to see what i was doing, & loved going for drives. This was the day we took the picture of him and I in the truck. I talked to him awhile ago & it was always a pleasure. It would have been nice to have one more time at the restaurant with us guys, on the 6th concession. He will be hard to replace as a friend.
R.I.P. Gerry, from your buddy Wayne Thornton
