Bob Henderson posted a condolence

I was saddened to learn of Doug’s passing today written up in the Toronto Star. I arrived at Lord Dufferin PS in 1972 to teach Home Room courses, 1/2 day Phys. Ed including swimming. Doug welcomed me to the staff and provided many teaching tips as well as successful l discipline strategies dealing with inner city students. Doug was always a very cheerful teacher who dedicated himself to education, coaching and competitive sports. At a personal level, I learned a lot! Whether it involved basketball, swimming, cosom hockey, outdoor sports, Doug was a true competitor! This philosophy was shared with students & many teachers who volunteered their time with students. I wish my deepest condolences to family members, teachers & students who had the pleasure of working with Doug over the many years. Sincerely, Bob Henderson( Ret. Secondary Vice Principal/ TDSB ).

Deepest condolences to Doug’s family. Although I never taught with Doug, I did have the pleasure of getting to know him over a number of years curling with the Toronto Men Teachers on Friday nights; a most likeable individual with a hearty laugh that was contagious. I’m sure he will be sorely missed by many, both friends and family. RIP Doug.
