I was very sorry to hear about Joan's passing. I have fond memories of growing up at Erindale United Church with Mrs Binns and her family, and also of seeing her as a supply teacher, both when I was a student and later when I became a teacher in Peel myself. I offer my heartfelt condolences to Doug, Laura and Alison during this difficult time. With Sympathy, Lynn Hutchinson

I have many happy memories of sharing our daughter, Laura's and Joan and Doug's daughter, Laura's experiences with Joan at our monthly breakfast get-togethers in Barrie over the years as they both grew into fine young women and entered their careers. We enjoyed visits during the Coldwater Studio tour to their lovely home and sharing goings-on at Eady and Coldwater churches and ours in Bond Head. Joan was a lovely person. My heart goes out to Doug and the girls and their families in their sadness.

Doug, Laura & Allison & Susan!, I am saddened by the loss of Joan! Doug worked with my late husband on the Metro Toronto Police Force.
DOUG & Joan built a beautiful home outside of Coldwater where we lived & they loved the community!
Joan had a really funny sense of humour & was a skilled knitter & seamstress!
My sincere condolences to all of Joan’s family.

It’s with sincere sorrow I read about Joan’s passing. I recollect it was approximately 1971 I met Joan when we were on the teaching staff at Sir Adam Beck, Etobicoke. Glenna, my wife and I enjoyed so many fun times with Joan & Doug when living in Sheridan Homelands and visiting their cottage on Severn River adjacent to Sparrow Lake. It was with regret we lost that close contact with them as well as Laura and Allison when we moved to Simcoe County. When Joan and Doug were moving to the Coldwater area and building a home, they chose the same builder we had build our home in Horseshoe Valley- Jerry Walters, Custom Built Homes. In the following years we again reconnected socially although less often due to work demands.
Doug, Laura, Allison- these are a few antidotes with fond memories of sincerely wonderful ongoing times we enjoyed with such a caring lady, teacher, mother, friend. She lit up our lives. Pax vobiscum.

I worked with Joan at Fairview Public School in the mid 90,s. Being a freshly minted head custodian and Joan being a senior teacher, it quickly became obvious to me that Joan was down to earth and she helped guide me within the framework of the school in her opinion. Of course she was bang on. Her teaching style was of the fabric they simply don’t make anymore. Rip Joan and condolences to all family members.
