Obituary of George Orrin Hutchison Jr.

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Passed away suddenly in Barrie, Ontario on July 30, 2024 at the age of 87.  Born in Ottawa, Ontario to Dr. George Orrin Hutchison and Lillian (Bingham); brother to Ruth (Hutchison) Macdonald and Barbara (Hutchison) Fraser.  Beloved husband of Marilyn (Quenneville), of 55 years; dear father of Laura (Corey), Lynd (Lou), Eleanor (Sean) and Ian; cherished papa to Anastasia (Mat), Kristopher, Paige, Sydney, Harlee and great grandfather of Katalina.  He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, god daughter, his extended family and countless friends.

George and Marilyn traveled extensively and he had a love of food, culture, politics, classical music, shopping and the great outdoors, fishing, swimming, hiking, curling, and skiing. He would always have a story to tell, especially when taking some back road trip (a shortcut according to George). No one ever fell asleep during one of his stories.. He had a zest for life. He was known as “Hutch” from his days of teaching law, math, finance and computers. George made a lasting impression on his students whom he considered to be “his kids”.  His well known expressions of “Thank You Very Much” and his favorite prayer, “Some Hae Meat And Canna Eat….” will never be forgotten and will be continued for many generations to come.

The Jovial Fish & Game Club founded in 1891 by his great grandfather in Quebec, is where George fished every spring and took his family each summer where memories are still being made.  His passion for fishing, his famous 1-2-3, hiking, swimming, attending work camps, cooking, chopping ice and firewood, clearing paths and let’s not forget more stories along with so many other things.

A private family gathering and interment of ashes will be held at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, Ontario at a later date.

George was a tenacious supporter of the Canadian Association for the Deaf, CNIB, Diabetes Canada, and the Heart & Stroke Foundation. In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree or making a donation to one of these charities or a charity of your choice, in his memory.
